Djibril Niang, sits on a source of water where camels come to drink in Oasis of Maaden el Ervane, in the Adrar region, on June 20, 2024. Originally from Saint Luis, Senegal, Djibril moved to Mauritania in 1975 to follow the Imam Cheikh Mohamed Lemine Sidina and found with him the village of Oasis of Maaden el Ervane with the aim of creating an autonomous community which has become nowadays a flagship for agroecology. The village has collaborated over the years with the French writer, agronomist and environmentalist Pierre Rahbi and his foundation. (Photo by Michele Cattani / AFP)
