Once in the city, mica mined legally and illegally are mixed up and become impossible to distinguish. According to the Indian Bureau of Mines, in 2012-13 the legally mined mica constituted just one percent of total mica exports. The previous year, the state of Jharkhand lost around 4 billion USD due to illegal mining.
