According to the Indian Bureau of Mines, in 2012-13 the legally mined mica constituted just one percent of total mica exports. The previous year, the state of Jharkhand lost around 4 billion USD due to illegal mining.According to the Jharkhand Department of Mines, twenty years ago authorities were issuing 8,000 licenses for dealers. Nowadays, there are only about 150 of them.
