Outskirts of Domchanch, Jharkhand, India: Mukesh Singh's hands covered with mica powder. Mukesh Singh, 35-year-old, works in an underground forest mine near the village of Domchanch. With a daily wage of 250 rupees (almost 4 USD), this proud father of two is much better off than the regular villagers who scavenge the village makeshift mines for a living. Still, he says, the work is so dangerous and so volatile that he doesn't want his kids to follow his example. "I want to send them both to school so that they can get an education, rather than getting a job like this, where there is no security" he explains, his hands and feet covered in a white dust.
